Introduction

Bullies and ill-equipped leaders and managers can be found in most businesses, yet they go undetected. They operate under the radar. One can go into the psychological reasons why someone becomes a bully, and why managers and leaders are not fully equipped to be well-adjusted managers and leaders, but that is not the intent here. What this program aims at is to identify challenges in the workplace that leads to conflict, power struggles, and unfair treatment of others (including all forms of unfair discriminatory factors). Once identified, acknowledged and ownership is taken of the issues at hand, this program aims at bringing about change through the transformation of the individual, and then integrating this change into the workplace, to create a healthy collective whole.

Employee and employer must embrace in a symbiotic dance together. You cannot have one without the other. There are a multitude of challenges in the workplace which must be addressed, such as inequality, corruption, a lack of transparency, respect, dignity, and trust. Workplace Wellness is far more than just having work / life balance and fulfillment in one’s job. It is also about providing the necessary resources to all employees, without exception, to best handle workplace stressors. It is about encouraging mental and emotional maturity and ensuring that you create a safe working environment for all, where every voice matters and is heard. I have clients who feel (and a lot are) bullied by their bosses, leaders and even colleagues in the workplace, yet they feel that they have no safe place, or process that they are aware of, where they can go to get unbiased effective resolution. I do not need to tell you that this leading through fear and bullishness not only creates (and perpetuates) a hostile working environment, but it also ensures that your bottom-line is adversely effected through these unresolved behaviors. I have seen leaders, even CEO’s and MD’s of businesses, being bullied by external factors, and they have no idea how to face them, because they are the last go-to-person on the corporate ladder, so they operate from a constant base of fear, which then ripples through the business and adversely effects their health. The old proverbial saying applies:- monkey see – monkey do.
